TYPE OF INCIDENT: Serious Injury Bicyclist and Vehicle Collision
   
OCCURRED: 03/26/12 at 1841 hours

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: E. Camden at S. Magnolia Ave., El Cajon

RESUME OF INCIDENT:

At approximately 6:41 pm on Monday March 26, 2012 El Cajon Police Officers and Fire Paramedics responded to reports of a bicyclist being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of E. Camden and S. Magnolia Ave., in El Cajon.

Based on witnesses located at the scene, it appears the bicyclist violated the right of way of an oncoming 1995 Chevy Cavalier and was struck by the vehicle. The driver immediately stopped and is cooperating with Police Investigators. The bicyclist was found to have a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about his breath and person. Preliminary indications are the bicyclist may have been driving his bike while under the influence of alcohol. The cyclist was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment; his injuries do not appear to be life threatening at this time.

This investigation is ongoing and information about the victim is not being released.
