TYPE OF INCIDENT: Assault with a Deadly Weapon


DATE AND TIME OCCURRED: December 26, 2011, 8:11 PM


LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: 380 N. Mollison


SUSPECT: Dennis Wallace Haggerty, 22-years-old


RESUME OF INCIDENT:

On December 26, 2011, at 8:11 PM, the El Cajon Police Department received several 911 calls regarding gunshots being fired at 380 N. Mollison. Officers discovered that an occupant of apartment #244, later identified as Dennis Wallace Haggerty, went to another apartment and fired into the apartment. The victim in the second apartment retrieved his gun and fired into the ground to scare Haggerty away. Haggerty ran away, firing several more rounds towards the victim.

A witness saw Haggerty run into apartment #244 following the shooting. Officers learned there were several other people inside the apartment, including children. The SWAT Team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene. The occupants of the apartment were contacted by negotiators and agreed to come outside. Haggerty was one of the individuals who came out of the apartment. He was identified as the shooter and was taken into custody.

No one was injured as a result of this incident. Haggerty was booked into San Diego County Jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
