TYPE OF INCIDENT: Child Abduction

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: 1000 E. Lexington
SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: Anthony Cortez, 28 yrs
RESUME OF INCIDENT:
El Cajon – On Saturday evening at about 11:00 PM, the suspect made an attempt to remove his 9 year old son from the home of an adult couple entrusted to babysit the child. The suspect did not have custody rights for the child and one of the babysitters intervened to prevent the suspect from taking the child. The suspect pulled a handgun and fired 2 shots before taking his son and leaving the area. Nobody was injured by the gunfire.
El Cajon Police, with the assistance of the Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter conducted an intensive search for the suspect and 9 year old child. Initial attempts to locate the suspect were unsuccessful and El Cajon Police continued to search and follow up on leads throughout the evening. Early on Sunday morning, the suspect arrived at the mother’s residence and returned the juvenile unharmed. Several El Cajon Police officers then took the suspect into custody without further incident and booked him into jail.
