(El Cajon, Calif.) —A 46 year old El Cajon man turned himself into the El Cajon Police Department around 11:30 am Wednesday morning, claiming he was the driver of a hit and run vehicle. The collision occurred Monday evening in the 500 block of N. Mollison when a vehicle struck and critically injured a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway. The vehicle, a gray colored Nissan X-Terra, never stopped and drove away from the scene.
After later watching news reports of the incident, the driver decided to turn himself in. He was cooperative with investigators and after being interviewed, the driver was arrested and charged with felony hit and run. The driver’s vehicle, a Nissan X-Terra was located at his residence. He was booked into county jail. The pedestrian who was struck is still in critical condition. No further details will be released pending further investigation.
The El Cajon Police Department would like to remind all drivers that it is their responsibility, if involved in a collision, to stop as soon as practical and safe nearest the scene of the collision. The California Vehicle Code specifies driver responsibilities after a collision under sections 20001 (a) and 20002 (a).
