TYPE OF INCIDENT:    Fatal Collision

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: 500 E. Chase



El Cajon Police and Fire Department personnel responded to a vehicle collision in the 500 block of E. Chase. Upon arriving, police discovered that a Toyota Camry had struck a person operating an electric mobility scooter. The victim was operating the scooter while attempting to cross Chase mid block at about 5:15 pm when he was struck. Investigators noted that it was dark at the time of the collision and the victim was wearing dark colored clothing. It is unclear if the victim’s scooter had any type of lighting system.

The 52 year old male victim was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital where he eventually passed away. His identification is being withheld pending notification of family.

There are no indications that alcohol was involved in the collision. Chase was closed from Mollison to Avocado for about four hours while police traffic investigators processed the scene.

The El Cajon Police Department encourages those going out during the hours of darkness to wear light colored or reflective clothing and to cross streets at controlled intersections.
