DATE AND TIME OCCURRED: July 2, 2010; 1040 hours
LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: 495 N. 2nd Street, El Cajon CA

SUSPECT:
SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: Black Male, 5’6”, 220 lbs; wearing a black floral shirt, black pants.
RESUME OF INCIDENT:
On July 2, 2010, at approximately 1040 hours the El Cajon Police Department started receiving several calls of a man chasing people with a large hunting type knife in the area of 495 N. 2nd Street. Motor Officer Nick Sprecco, a nine year veteran, was on a traffic stop near by and responded to the call. When he arrived he saw the suspect in the Jack in the Box parking lot at 2nd and Madison. The suspects had the knife in his hand and started approaching the officer.
Officer Sprecco started backing away from the suspect and ordered him to drop the knife several times. The suspect ignored his orders to drop the knife and kept advancing on him. Officer Sprecco drew his service pistol and fired several rounds, hitting the suspect in the upper torso and leg. After the suspect collapsed Officer Sprecco and other responding officers began administering first aid. El Cajon Fire personnel arrived on scene and transported the suspect to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.
Officer Sprecco was not injured in the incident.
