SUSPECT: Orvin Braaten, 49 years of age, El Cajon resident

RESUME OF INCIDENT:
On May 14, 2010, at approximately 8:00pm, the El Cajon Police Department received a 911 call regarding shots being fired in front of 1621 Blackthorne Court. The reporting party was attempting to retrieve his boat, which was parked on the street in front of the residence, when the suspect confronted him with a shotgun. An argument ensued over a civil matter regarding the boat. The suspect shot at the victim, who was not struck by any of the rounds, at which time the victim fled the area and notified police.

As police officers arrived, they observed the suspect go back into his home and close the door. The suspect, who is on active probation, refused to answer repeated phone calls into his residence. Police officers utilized the PA system in one of the patrol cars to persuade the suspect outside. The suspect finally came outside and was taken into custody for felony assault with a firearm, 245(a)(2)PC. Numerous firearms were recovered from the residence and the investigation is continuing.
