RESUME OF INCIDENT: On May 13, 2010, at approximately 5:15pm, the El Cajon Police Department received a 911 call from a resident of an apartment complex located at 1038 Peach Ave. The reporting party was requesting police assistance after one of the neighboring tenants verbally threatened to shoot them. The reporting party also observed a masked individual inside the suspect’s apartment, standing at a window holding a firearm. Fearing for their safety, they immediately called the police department.
When police arrived, it was determined that probable cause existed for the suspect’s arrest on charges of felony criminal threats. The suspect, who was on active probation, barricaded himself in his apartment and refused to surrender to authorities. Due to the fact the suspect may have been armed with a firearm and had barricaded himself inside the apartment, the El Cajon Police Department’s SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiations Team were called to assist.
After approximately two hours of negotiations, the suspect finally surrendered without further incident. He was taken into custody and subsequently charged with one count of 422 PC - Felony Criminal Threats.
