TYPE OF INCIDENT: Vehicle Collision Fatality

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: 520 N. Second Street
NEWS UPDATE
El Cajon ? At about 8:45 Sunday morning on 01/03/2010 a vehicle driven by a 74 year old El Cajon resident struck a Carl?s Jr. Restaurant located at 520 N. Second St. The vehicle went through the building striking and killing a patron who was seated in a restaurant booth. The victim was a 66 year old male who was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses described the victim as a regular patron of the restaurant. The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was 74 year old Richard Daus of El Cajon. Daus is in the hospital recovering from injuries and police plan to interview him soon. The investigation into the cause of the collision is continuing as police investigators are still examining evidence and speaking with witnesses. Results of the investigation will be made public at the conclusion of the investigation.
