(El Cajon, Calif.) ?The El Cajon Police Department has joined law enforcement across the state as part of California?s 18 Day Holiday DUI Crackdown Campaign with law enforcement agencies deploying 300 DUI/Drivers License Checkpoints statewide. Funding for the special enforcement campaign, December 16, 2009 through January 3, 2010 comes from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Tuesday evening, the El Cajon Police Department conducted a DUI check point in the 1000 block of El Cajon Blvd. near Washington Ave. El Cajon police officers began checking vehicles at about 7 pm and the check point continued well after midnight. A total of 1362 vehicles passed through the check point and a total of 834 drivers were contacted.

As a result of the check point, 34 vehicles were impounded, mostly for operators driving on suspended driver?s licenses. One driver was arrested for carrying a concealed handgun while two others tried to drive a stolen vehicle through the check point. All were arrested without incident.
