SOBRIETY/DRIVERS LICENCE CHECKPOINT SCHEDULED September 25, 2009
The El Cajon Police Department will conduct a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint beginning Friday, September 25, 2009 at approximately 7 p.m. until 2 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009. The checkpoint is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to reduce the number of D.U.I. incidents in the City of El Cajon thanks to funding provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Motorists approaching the checkpoint will be diverted into an area where an officer will contact them checking for signs of impairment. The drivers will be stopped only for a few moments while the purpose of the checkpoint is explained. Those who appear to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be given field sobriety tests and face possible arrest. Traffic volume permitting, all vehicles will be checked.
Additionally, Driver Licenses will be checked and those found to be suspended or unlicensed can expect to have their vehicles impounded.
Alcohol Involved Collisions remain the number one factor of fatal collisions statewide and the El Cajon Police Department reminds everyone to plan ahead – Use a Designated Driver! Police officials remind every motorist to please make your community safer - if you see dangerous driving –‘Report Drunk Drivers - Call 9-1-1!’
The exact location of the checkpoint will not be announced until two hours prior to the start of the operation.*
