ARRESTEE:       Edward Michael Forney, 11/18/1989

WANTED SUSPECT:      Charles Henderson Neal, 5/22/1986
         Black male, 5’9”, 180, black hair, brown eyes

RESUME OF INCIDENT:
This is an update regarding the investigation of an officer involved shooting that occurred on Sunday, August 9, 2009. After a pursuit by CHP in the City of El Cajon on Sunday, the passenger of the vehicle being chased fired at two CHP officers, and then tried to run down one of the officers. El Cajon Police detectives have been working to identify and locate the suspects since the incident.

Investigators worked throughout the day on Sunday, and were able to identify the occupants of the vehicle. The passenger of the suspect vehicle was identified as Edward Michael Forney, 11/18/1989, and the driver was identified as Charles Henderson Neal, 5/22/1986. Both Forney and Neal are documented street gang members.

On Monday August 10, 2009, Forney, an E-1 in the USMC, was contacted and detained by NCIS at MCAS Miramar. After the detention, a search warrant was served at 7065 Benson Avenue in the City San Diego, Forney’s residence. During the service of the search warrant, evidence linking Forney to the crime was located.

On August 11, 2009, detectives from the El Cajon Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Forney for three counts of Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer. Forney was turned over ECPD detectives at MCAS Miramar at about 6:00 PM. After the arrest, detectives found that Forney had suffered a minor injury to his left thigh. This injury appeared to be a grazing wound. The injury was consistent with a bullet hole in the driver’s seat of the suspect vehicle. Forney will be transported to San Diego County Jail.

Detectives were able to identify the driver of the suspect vehicle during the pursuit as Charles Henderson Neal, 5/22/1986. Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for Neal for the charge of 2800.2 CVC, Reckless Evading. Go to www.elcajonpolice.org to view a photograph of Neal.
