DATE AND TIME OCCURRED: May 16, 2009, 9:40 PM
LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: 1608 Broadway, El Cajon
SUSPECT: Michael James Russell, 8/13/69
RESUME OF INCIDENT:
On May 16, 2009, at about 9:40 PM, the El Cajon Police Department received a 911 call reference a male who was lying on the ground in front of the Albertson’s grocery store located at 1608 Broadway in the City of El Cajon. The reporting party said that someone had checked for a pulse, but could not locate one. Police and El Cajon FD paramedics were dispatched to the scene. CPR was performed on the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers began interviewing potential witnesses, and found that the victim, a local transient, had been involved in a fight with another transient. The victim had visible injuries to his face as if he had been struck. Officers began searching the area and were able to locate the person who had fought with the victim. He was identified as Michael James Russell, 8-13-69. Russell voluntarily accompanied officers to the police department. Russell was eventually arrested and booked into San Diego County Jail for the murder of the victim.
