TYPE OF INCIDENT:
Hot Prowl Burglaries

DATE AND TIME OCCURRED:
January 30–31, 2009

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE:
Mahogany Drive and Spanish Oak Place

SUSPECT:
Unknown

RESUME OF INCIDENT:
Between the late evening of January 30th, and the early morning of January 31st, two completed, and five attempted Hot Prowl burglaries occurred on Mahogany Drive and Spanish Oak Place, in El Cajon. This brings the total number of hot prowl burglary related crimes in this neighborhood to fifteen since mid-October, 2008. Items stolen during these offenses are typically wallets, purses, cellular phones, and other easily carried belongings.

During this last cluster of crimes, several victims heard suspicious noises yet failed to call the police, believing the noises to be harmless. The El Cajon Police Department encourages members of this community to notify us if they see, hear or suspect anything unusual taking place in or around their residences, as we are concerned over the potential for a violent confrontation between the suspect and potential victims.

Based on the pattern of these crimes, which involves several burglaries within a few days and then a gap of several weeks, it appears the suspect may be an individual visiting relatives or friends in this neighborhood on a regular basis. We are asking for anyone with information related to these crimes to contact Detective Wining, at 619-441-1590.
