EL CAJON POLICE DEPT. - PRESS RELEASE INFORMATION SHEET
TYPE OF INCIDENT: Vehicle Collision Fatality
DATE: 9 pm SEPTEMBER 29, 2008
LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: 1500 Block of Fletcher Parkway
Monday evening at about 9 pm, members of the El Cajon Police and Fire Department responded to a vehicle collision in the 1500 block of Fletcher Parkway. Upon arriving at the scene of the collision police and fire personnel encountered a single vehicle which was fully involved in flames and partially down a steep embankment. El Cajon Fire Department worked to extinguish the flames which had spread from the vehicle to several large trees.
During the course of the ensuing investigation, El Cajon Police Traffic Investigators determined that the lone male driver had been traveling east bound on Fletcher Parkway when he veered to the left, over a raised center island and into oncoming west bound traffic. The vehicle left the roadway striking a large tree on the way down the embankment and subsequently caught fire. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision and the Medical Examiner’s Office was notified. No other vehicles were struck.
The identity of the 19 year old driver has not been released pending notification of family. The cause of this accident is under investigation by the El Cajon Police Department.
