SUSPECT DESCRIPTION:


RESUME OF INCIDENT:
On September 19, 2008, at about 2:30 AM, the El Cajon Police Department received several calls on 911 of a female screaming at the intersection of Hacienda and Swallow. When officers arrived, they found a female victim with multiple stab wounds to her neck and arms. A male identified as Justin Michael Bates, 2-5-84, was also present at the scene. Bates had blood on his hands and clothing, and was taken into custody. A knife was also located at the scene.

The victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim was stabilized after treatment, and was able to give detectives a statement this afternoon. She said she was at Cheers and Beers Bar on Wintergardens Blvd. just outside the City of El Cajon. She said that she had been to this bar in the past, and had seen the suspect there before, although she did not know him. Bates asked the victim for a ride home and she agreed. During the drive, Bates began stabbing the victim in the throat. The victim deliberately crashed her car in attempt to get away from the suspect. She got out of the car and began screaming. The victim said that Bates knocked her to the ground, continued stabbing her and began choking her.

The victim underwent surgery and is in stable condition. Bates was booked into county jail for Attempted Murder.
