TYPE OF INCIDENT: Recovered Missing Person with Arrest
DATE AND TIME OCCURRED: August 1, 2008, 11:30 PM
LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: 1541 Saturn Blvd., San Diego
MISSING PERSON: Frances Jean Agan, 12/12/86
Arrestee: Maynard Whitfield, 2/27/88
RESUME OF INCIDENT:
Agan was reported missing on 7/31/08 at about 1:30 AM. There were suspicious circumstances surrounding Agan’s disappearance. Over the next two days, investigators spent many hours searching for her and her boyfriend, Whitfield.
On 8/1/08 at about 9:30 PM, El Cajon Police detectives and the San Diego Police Department began receiving calls that Whitfield and Agan had been sighted around Whitfield’s apartment complex at 1541 Saturn Blvd. in San Diego. ECPD Detectives and SDPD patrol officers responded to the area and began searching for Agan and Whitfield. At about 11:30 PM both were seen walking down the street together. When Whitfield saw detectives, he began running. After a short foot pursuit, Whitfield was taken into custody.
When Agan was interviewed, she confirmed that Whitfield had broken into her home and threatened her with a knife. She said she went with him and stayed with him over the past two days because she feared for her safety. Whitfield was booked into San Diego County Jail on charges including kidnapping, false imprisonment and residential burglary.
