July 15, 2008
TYPE OF INCIDENT: Arrest of Burglary Suspect DATE AND TIME OCCURRED: July 9, 2008, 2:48 PM LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: 722 Jamacha, El Cajon BUSINESS NAME: N/A SUSPECT: William David Meggett, 11-14-78 SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: RESUME OF INCIDENT: In January of this year, a resident of the 300 block of Van Houten in the City of El Cajon began noticing items missing from his home. In an attempt to catch someone stealing property, he set up a surveillance camera in his home. The surveillance camera captured images of an unknown suspect in the residence. The victim of the theft did not know the suspect. In an effort to identify the burglary suspect, photos were placed on the El Cajon Police Department’s web site. On July 8, 2008, an El Cajon Resident contacted the police department with information on this case. He had been on the department’s web site, www.elcajonpolice.org, and recognized the photo of the suspect from this case as a person who frequented the gas station at Douglas and Main Street. Detective Bob Wining learned that the suspect may live at an apartment complex in the area. Det. Wining was ultimately able to identify the suspect as William David Meggett, 11-14-78. Meggett was arrested for residential burglary and booked into County Jail. People are encouraged to go to www.elcajonpolice.org and click on the “Open Cases” page to view photos of suspects in other unsolved cases. With the assistance of the public, we will be able to identify additional suspects who have victimized members of the community. Individuals with information on any of the cases on the web site can contact the detectives listed with each case. People can also remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tip lines at (888) 580-TIPS or sending an email or text to www.sdcrimestoppers.com. Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to a felony arrest. PREPARED BY: Lt.
